William Corbett

William Corbett serves as an Instructor at The Soufan Group. He is a national security planner, practitioner, and knowledge presenter with an extensive record of operational achievement across government institutions and international partnerships.

A 22-year veteran of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Mr. Corbett’s management of transnational criminal cases, intelligence investigations, and counterterrorism operations derive from service with the FBI’s International Operations Division. A founding member of the Counterterrorism Fly Team, he conducted numerous terrorism response deployments throughout Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, in particular Iraq and Afghanistan. As the FBI’s first Legal Attaché in East Africa, he oversaw numerous national security operations, foreign partner training programs, and liaison development. During his career, he served as an FBI representative to the Department of State, the Department of Defense, and the Central Intelligence Agency. Mr. Corbett was a founding member of the FBI’s Genocide War Crimes Unit, tracking fugitives from the International Criminal Court, the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

Before joining the FBI, Mr. Corbett served as a tactical jet aviator in the United States Marine Corps, accruing 1,500 flight hours and mission commander status in multiple aircraft.

Mr. Corbett is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Hawaii and the University of Guam. He has provided presentations and counterterrorism training to audiences at Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, Harvard Law School, Boston College, Liberty University, Royal Canadian Mounted Police Academy, and numerous U.S. interagency and foreign service partner audiences. He is a graduate of Norwich University, Military College of Vermont, and holds an M.S. in Strategic Planning from National Defense University’s Eisenhower School.
