Mr. Fitzpatrick is a decorated national security attorney and litigator who has been recognized for leading difficult and highly sensitive cases over a 20-year government career. Mr. Fitzpatrick served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia within the national security and international crime unit. During his career, the Department of Justice honored Mr. Fitzpatrick with numerous awards, including the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award; The Director’s Award for Superior Performance; and the John Marshall Award for superior litigation performance. He was regularly involved in investigations concerning all manner of national security, including terrorism, espionage, trade secrets/economic espionage, export controls (IEEPA), handling of classified material, among others.
Based upon his experience managing several large-scale and high-profile cases, he has worked in conjunction with nearly all elements of the U.S. government including the FBI, CIA, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Commerce, Department of Treasury, and the United States Military.
Mr. Fitzpatrick can provide counsel on U.S. regulatory compliance and enforcement matters at the intersection of international trade and national security. In particular, he can offer advice on navigating the increasingly complex legal regimes with economic sanctions and export controls.
Mr. Fitzpatrick serves on the faculty at the National Security Institute and as an adjunct professor at the Scalia Law School at George Mason University. He earned his J.D. from University of Maine School of Law and holds an M.A. degree from the Catholic University of America. He received his B.A. degree from George Mason University.
