He is a native of New York City and is a graduate of Cornell University’s College of Arts & Sciences (English, cum laude) and business school (MBA). Before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a Special Agent, he was employed as a Compliance Analyst by the Wall Street investment banking firms of First Boston Corporation and Salomon Brothers Inc. In the FBI he worked on white collar crime matters, public corruption, drug money laundering investigations, counterterrorism (terrorist finance), Russian organized crime, and as an interrogation and financial crimes instructor at the FBI Academy. He took on multiple supervisory assignments for the FBI including a Squad Supervisor in New York, supervision of the Joint Task Force on Terrorist Finance in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Unit Chief for the Eurasian Organized Crime Unit at FBI Headquarters, Counterterrorism Advisor to AFRICOM in Stuttgart, Germany, and Assistant Legal Attaché in Paris.
He received multiple awards for his work in the FBI, including the Distinguished Service Medal from the Salt Lake City Police Department for an international money laundering investigation. He has lectured at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and has provided instruction to national police and security services in Botswana, Brazil, Egypt, El Salvador, Hungary, the Maldives, Nigeria, Qatar, Romania, Rwanda, Singapore and Trinidad and Tobago. He retired from the FBI in 2017 after 21 years of service. Mr. Casey has published articles in The Journal of Counterterrorism and The National Academy Associate. He has been interviewed by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Adam Goldman for the New York Times, David Muir for ABC’s 20/20, Sophie Bonnet for a 2018 documentary on FRANCE 2, and Jerri Williams for the FBI Retired Case File Review podcast. He has worked as a consultant on several FBI related Hollywood TV shows. He has just completed writing his FBI memoir.
