Senior Cybersecurity and AI Advisor

Corey M. Hubbert is a Senior Cybersecurity and AI Advisor at The Soufan Group. He provides instruction and training in cybercrime, cybersecurity foreign policy, dark web, cyber incident response, security operations and threat hunting.
Corey retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after 20 years, the majority spent on the front lines of the Bureau’s cyber and technical operations programs. He began his cyber career conducting computer intrusion investigations and cyber incident response, and advanced through a series of increasingly senior technical and supervisory positions in cyber operations and technical surveillance.
As a Supervisory Special Agent, Corey worked with the FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST), specializing in cellular and RF geolocation and wireless network exploitation — the discipline of reconstructing a device’s location and activity from call detail records and cellular network data in support of federal investigations and prosecutions. He later served as Unit Chief for Technical Operations and Development, directing the FBI’s offensive technical operations and counter-technical surveillance capabilities, and is a recognized authority on ubiquitous technical surveillance.
Corey also served overseas as an FBI Assistant Legal Attaché (ALAT) at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, where his portfolio spanned cyber investigations, technical operations, and cyber training in coordination with Mexican government partners.
A dedicated instructor throughout his career, Corey develops and delivers training spanning foundational analyst and SOC operations, wireless and cellular signals exploitation, digital and mobile forensics, cybercrime and dark web investigations, penetration testing, incident response, and strategic cyber defense — integrating AI-enabled analysis, triage, and threat-hunting tooling throughout his instruction. He developed and taught the FBI’s cyber defense curriculum to fellow agents and partner-nation services and is the author of Way of the Cyber Warrior: Ageless Wisdom to Build a Strong Security Mindset and Digital Defense: A Practical Guide to Personal Cybersecurity.
Corey holds an MBA, the GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) and GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) certifications.
